The New Square project is an excellent example of an imaginative wholesale refurbishment of this post-modern architecture by Michael Hopkins. The scheme, for which full planning consent had to be received, involves the wholesale strip-out of the interior and complete fit out to a new landlord’s CAT A standard. An upwards extension created an additional 6,000 sqft floor with panoramic views and the construction of an adjacent, single storey ‘pavilion’ building, setting the standard for the rest of the park. The building has also incorporated many ESG features such as, reusing and repurposing existing steel, reusing the raised access floor, extensive power generation via sympathetically placed photovoltaic panels, triple glazing to the elements and extensive bicycle parking and end of trip facilities. The building has achieved a BREEAM Excellent and is part of a wider phased strategy to reposition the park following the client’s acquisition in 2021. |
